Buff Plymouth

Buff Plymouth Rocks were originally coloured like Rhode Island Reds when they were first developed in the mid 1800's. The name ‘Buff’ referred to American breeder Mr Buffington, and only later did breeders develop Buff as a colour.
English breeders created their own strain of Buffs developed from Cochins and Orpingtons and later mixed these with US birds.
Our Buff Plymouths are heavy set and broad breasted with sturdy legs and soft, loose feathers, similar to an Orpington. Their colouring is a warm gold which could be described as strawberry blonde. They are reliable layers, coming into lay around six months old.
The Buff Plymouth are rare and difficult to breed. They are hard to come by and you may be unable to find them anywhere else in New Zealand. They are truly very special.
We adore our Buff Plymouths. Our stunning golden boy is just like a teddy bear and the girls are calm and easy to handle.
